Diabetic beauty
2019, bronze, wax, aluminium, 17 x 12 cm each

Diabetic Beauty reflects a sculptural transformation through consumption. In considering the relationship between nourishment and form, this sculpture directs attention to the intimate individuation of food as it is assimilated; subsequently becoming the body that consumes it.

A series of cast makeup sponges, caught and contorted within cast shower curtain rings, are balanced upon aluminium cans. Half of the casts are wax, the other half bronze. All are surface finished with oil pigment to look identical. The only differentiating factor is the individual weight of each object, which distorts the cans as they rest open.
