Stormborne
Performance & Moving Image Installation
Alpha60 Chapter House, Melbourne
Four channel sound with dual channel moving image installation
Filmed during a wild winter on theMornington Peninsula, Stormborne
channels elemental forces into
sculptural sound.

At its heart are sculptural drums, these
instruments are not struck by human
hands, but awakened by the storm
itself. To launch the exhibition, eight
percussionists took over all three levels
of the historic Chapter House building,
creating a sound storm that
shook the gothic rafters.
Featuring percussionists Alastair Kerr, Esala Liyanage, Marissa Di Marzio and the thunderous Wadaiko Rindo Taiko drumming troupe, extending the elemental experience into live movement and sound.

Stormborne is accompanied by the Stormborne Artist Series, a limited-edition collection of weatherproof garments created by Alpha60 and Jen Valender, inspired by the sculptural forms and storm-worn textures of the work.Supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Gants & Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery’s Artist in Residence Program. Produced in partnership with the Centre for Projection Art & Alpha60.
